construction
the core element of the project
This particular element of the project we see as the core.
Every young person needs to feel safe, both emotionally and physically. Unfortunately, world wide, there are significant numbers of young people who do not.
This can be for a variety of reasons. However, for a huge number of young people this can be because they basically do not belong..... anywhere.
The aim of the Construction Element is to raise awareness of the plight of young people world wide who are displaced from their homes.
We want to raise that awareness on a very personal, and physical level, by linking young people from Great Britain who have the skills to provide this security, with other young people who need their help.
Our current project links Yale College Wrexham Construction Students with Grandsons of Abraham Street Shelter in Mombasa Kenya. www.friendsofgrandsons.com.

We are committed to working hand in hand with the projects we visit, and pride ourselves on the fact that the initiatives come from them. We aim to use local materials, with the aid of local tradesmen and women, whilst constructing each building in keeping with the local environment.
Our students are well prepared, committing to the following pre requisites, before travelling with us.
• A series of pre-project meetings which cover themes from Health Awareness, Cultural Difference, Fundraising, Community Work,
• A Team Building weekend, which looks at the themes of leadership, team work, brief expedition training, and a short expedition in Snowdonia. This is run by Camre Cymru Outlook Expeditions.
While we are on site our students are expected to fulfil the following:
• A full working week on site, following the brief of the Project Manager - Construction.
• Community work with the young people at the centre.
• Regular diary updates for family, friends and sponsors.
We hope that all the young people involved in the link will have an experience which will influence the rest of their lives.
